Endorsing Protocol

…On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of Caribbean Commercial Bank (Anguilla) Ltd.—CCB, I wish to express our pleasure of being associated with the Anguilla Cricket Development Committee and the development of the game of cricket in Anguilla. CCB’s sponsorship of the Senior Cricket League spans more than a decade.

We are cognizant of our role and responsibility as a good corporate citizen. We contribute willingly and meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Anguilla. To name but a few areas of our involvement and annual sponsorship:

  • The National Senior Cricket League
  • The National Summer Festival Talented Teen Pageant
  • Adoption of the Senior Citizen's Home
  • Annual Draughts Tournament
  • A float parade entry on the Anguilla Summer Festival Carnival Day

Worthy of mention is the fact that each time our island has been ravaged by hurricanes, CCB has been in the forefront providing financial and material relief for the victims. We not only lend a hand, we give a hand. We employ a heart and hand operation using our own staff and directors to evaluate and administer relief. In addition, we have been recognized and rewarded by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank for the third consecutive year, 1998﷓2000, as a Good Corporate Citizen in the development of sports in the OECS sub region.

The game of cricket has evolved over the past years, a barrel-stay bat and a rubber tubing hard ball to the modern day cricket paraphernalia. Sadly though, what has seemingly passed or diminished is the genuine passion or love for the game, the healthy rivalry, and the respect among players. The game of cricket is a highway leading to many places:
The Halls of Discipline - disciplined youngsters produce moral and productive role models and leaders.
Sports Tourism - a new and added dimension to our economy.
Ambassadors of regional and international acclaim—placing the individual and country on the world map.

It is therefore incumbent on the Executive to be visionary in their approach conducting strategic planning retreats, to mobilize players and communities in an effort to take this game to new and higher levels. Do not be deterred by failure, pessimism or indifference, it can happen. Make it a reality for our youths, our country.

May I challenge all. Let us do our part. CCB’s sponsorship alone will not get the job done. It will take the effort and support of Government to provide funding for the development of new playing fields and the upgrading of the Ronald Webster Park's grounds and facilities. It will take the effort of the Director of Sports to coordinate and give guidance and advice.

It will take the effort of the business houses to give material or financial support, and the general public to turnout at game times to encourage and cheer. Also needed is for the players to show commitment and dedication with a positive approach to the game.

Let me close by applauding: Chauka Hodge, Omari Banks and Alex Adams for excelling in the game; also tonight’s awardees; players in general; and, Cardigan Connor for his efforts with the youth. Keep on playing and enjoying the game! Also worthy of mention is the Cricket Development Committee for their hard work and commitment. We at Caribbean Commercial Bank are committed to support you both morally and financially. May God continue to enlighten you.
